down in florida. what do you say to the family? they say the therapy you did to him as a child led to the suicide as an adult. >> i would say scientifically that would be inaccurate to assume that it was the therapy, but i do grieve for the parents now that you've told me that news. i think that's very sad. >> reporter: according to the american psychiatric association, the potential risk of reparative therapy is great, including depression, anxiety and self-destructive behavior. the association says therapists' alignment with societal prejudices against homosexuality may reinforce the self-hatred already felt by patients. dr. nicolosi says his therapy isn't harmful, and he only treats people who want to change. not true, says ryan kendall. >> it led me to periods of homelessness, to drug abuse, to spending a decade of my life wanting to kill myself. it led to so much pain and struggle, and i want them to know that what they do hurts people. it hurts children. it has no basis in fact. and they need to stop. >> reporter: randi kaye, cnn, los angeles. >> let's get back to the lawsuit

place, right time, wolf. i've been doing the lottery draws now for about eight years here in florida. and florida, you know, hosts the power ball draws. and i auditioned for it and lucky enough to get it. it's been a great ride so far. >> do people recognize you on the street? you go out at 10:59 p.m. eastern and make -- take that ball and make somebody very, very happy, people are watching. >> people are watching. we've had people fly in from all over the country just to come to our studios and watch the draw because they wanted to see how it worked. they watch it from their homes, but they want to see how it looks in person. we're happy to have them in the studio. they have a viewing room, so they can come in and watch. yeah, i go out and people, you know, they spot me as the lottery guy, the power ball guy. it's a great job. i have the opportunity to really change people's lives. and every time i go out on the set and pull those numbers, i'm thinking about the person who might be winning that night and how radically different their life could be the next day. >> are you allowed to

: the senator from florida is recognized. mr. nelson: i ask consent that the quorum call be lifted. the presiding officer: without objection. mr. nelson: mr. president, while we're waiting for further debate on the defense bill and any possible amendments, i wanted to offer a couple of comments as to all of the concern in the nation about the fiscal cliff and as we approach that fateful day of december the 31st, the need to get something done. in this senator's opinion, sequestration, which is this additional cut of a trillion dollars in a most unorthodox w way, it's like a meat cleaver coming down and cutting off -- i'm rounding here -- a half a trillion off of defense and a half a trillion off of non-defense discretionary. sequestration, let's remember in the historical context, was never supposed to happen. sequestration was a mechanism that was set up in the budget control act in august of 2011 -- almost a year and a half ago -- after the agreement, the act called for $1 trillion being cut off of the top to begin with and it set up a process by which additional deficit reductio
